Peter Thorpe, former captain of Heath 1st XV who played for the Club during the 1970s and 1980s as well as running out with the Vets in the early 1990s, sadly died last month. At the request of the family the Club did not publish anything until his funeral had taken place.
Peter was clearly a very welcoming character who genuinely encouraged young players coming through the ranks at that time to develop as seniors and stay at Heath. His former team mates describe him as a real gentleman, a very good player and a great Clubman. Someone you always wanted on your side.
Peter was married to Jackie with a daughter Ngaire and son Julian who also played rugby at Heath through minis and juniors. Peter's grandson currently plays in the minis. Everyone at the Club sends their best wishes and condolences to the Thorpe family and Peter's close friends at this difficult time.
Peter is pictured centre back row in this photo in the blue tracksuit and you can see why he was known as the Silver Fox to his team mates. Next time you go to the Clubhouse at Whitemans Green look at the Captain's Board and you will see that Peter Thorpe was captain of the Heath 1st XV for three seasons - 1978/79, 1979/80 and again in 1982/83.
